Updates

DroneTracker can update itself from the console. You choose when.

Open Admin → Updates (under System). The top of the page shows the version this rig is running.

Which rigs can update here

In-console updates are currently available on NVIDIA Jetson Orin rigs. On any other rig, the page reads “In-console updates are available on Orin rigs. For this rig, contact DroneTracker support.”

Only signed releases

DroneTracker offers and installs only releases signed by DroneTracker. The rig checks the signature itself before it installs anything.

What you see

  • This rig is up to date. There’s nothing new to install.
  • One section for each new release, titled DroneTracker and the version number. Each section shows:
    • the release date and download size,
    • the release notes, and
    • a warning if the update restarts the whole rig: ⚠ Restart required: this update restarts the rig. Video, tracking and recording stop for a few minutes.
  • Could not check for updates, followed by the reason. The rig couldn’t reach the update service. Check the rig’s internet connection, then reload the page.

The page checks for new releases about once a minute while it’s open.

Install an update

  1. Read the release notes.
  2. Click Install….
  3. Confirm. The button reads Install now, or Install and restart if the update restarts the rig.
  4. If DroneTracker asks you to re-authenticate, confirm with your second factor. See Step-up confirmation.

Only admins see the install buttons.

While it installs

An install takes several minutes. The Update in progress section shows the progress:

  1. Downloading, with a percentage.
  2. Installing. The console then restarts, and the page reads Installing — the console is restarting. This page reconnects by itself.

You don’t need to do anything. Leave the page open, and it reconnects by itself when the console is back. If you try to sign in during the restart, the login page reads “The rig is restarting (for example, installing an update). Try again in a minute.”

Plan updates for a quiet time: the console is unavailable for a few minutes. With a Restart required update, the whole rig restarts, and video, tracking, and recording stop for a few minutes.

If an update fails

The Update in progress section shows the error. Try again later. If it fails again, contact DroneTracker support: open Admin → Support Access and choose Update / upgrade assistance. See Support and ideas.
